The q3config document contains all the important variables that effect the way Quake
3 looks, plays, and feels. When you change variables from the Quake 3 console,
they are written and stored in this document. It is also possible to manualy edit this config file out of game which makes changing certain settings easier and quicker. The q3config.cfg file is located in your baseq3 directory and needs to be opened by Wordpad to be optimaly viewed. I tried viewing the config through notepad but the layout can be messed up. Basicaly, double click the q3config, and when Windows asks which program you wish to use to open it, choose Wordpad and make sure "always use this program when opening this type of file" is ticked. Once done, you get a complete list of command line variables with the command description first, and then a number or other word in quotes which decides how the command is going to be effected. For example, the command seta cg_shadows "1" means that in game, your character will have shadows underneath them. If you were to change this number to "0", then your character will not have a shadow underneath them. Look at the complete list of command line variables for how to optimaly implement these settings. It is important that if you make significant changes to your config, you have a back up of your old one just in case you change a setting which prevents optimal performance, or stops Quake 3 from loading. The config is constantly dynamic, and if you change a setting in game, it will write this setting to your config. If you want some of your settings to be static, and not change then you will need to either write protect your config (make it read only from within windows) or create an autoexec. The simplest way to do this is to copy your config and paste it in the same baseq3 directory. Next, rename it to autoexec. Now, open the document and choose the settings you would like to keep static and then save the changes. Now when Quake 3 loads, these settings will always be active. Finaly, start tweaking that config!!!!! |
