The 3dfx tweaks option comes free with the 3dfx tools part of the driver package.
This is a really useful set of variables, and when tweaked properly, produce great
visuals with a solid framerate. However, since the release of the V3 1.04.09c "leaked" driver set, 3dfx produced an upgraded 3dfx tools package that gave the user more options to configure, and previously unseen features (such as Z-BUFFER optimisation for example). Here are my suggested setting for the old 3dfx tools (pre 1.04.09c) • ALPHA BLENDING - SHARPER • VIDEO DISPLAY - HIGH • FORCE MIPMAP DITHERING - TICKED • FORCE TRIPLE BUFFERING - UNTICKED • LIMIT TEXTURE MEMORY TO 2MB - UNTICKED • DISABLE SPLASH SCREEN - TICKED Here are my suggested settings for the new 3dfx tools (1.04.09c and beyond) Direct 3D: • ALPHA BLENDING - SHARPER • 3D FILTER QUALITY - NORMAL • Z BUFFER OPTIMIZATION - ENABLED • LEVEL OF DETAIL BIAS - -3 (or 0.75 for the latest BETA's) OpenGL / Glide: • GLIDE SPLASH SCREEN - DISABLED • LEGACY TEXTURE COMPRESSION - ENABLED • ALPHA BLENDING - SHARPER • 3D FILTER QUALITY - HIGH • MIP MAP DITHERING - ENABLED • TRIPLE BUFFERING - DISABLED • MAXIMUM BUFFERED FRAMES - NO PENDING BUFFER • LIMIT TEXTURE MEMORY - SOFTWARE CONTROLLED • LEVEL OF DETAIL BIAS - -3 (or 0.75 for the latest BETA's) 1.06.00+ Extra Settings: OpenGL/Glide • DEPTH PRECISION (16BIT) - FAST • VERTICAL SYNC - DISABLED These are the optimal settings for use with Quake 3 (and indeed most games) |
